Do you have to make presentations in English?
Presenting in another language is really nerve-wracking: you imagine you're making a lot of mistakes and that everyone in the audience is judging you, right? 😰
Many years ago I was living in Japan and I had the crazy idea to enter a foreign language speech contest. The audience was all Japanese and the contestants were either doing speeches in English or Chinese. I was the only foreign person and I was the only person doing my speech in Japanese.
I made mistakes in my speech (probably a lot!), my pronunciation was far from perfect and everyone in the audience was Japanese so they heard every single error very clearly.
But guess what? I won! Two tickets to Disneysea 🤩
So what helped me win? It was my content and HOW I presented. I made the speech engaging so that even with all my mistakes, I got the audience's attention and they wanted to know what I was going to say.
HOW you present and the content of your presentation is much more important than delivering your presentation in 100% grammatically perfect English. Even the most advanced speakers make some mistakes. And that is ok!
