I am very often impressed by my young students (I teach the 4th year Computer Science Masters students at Polytech), especially with the things they do outside of their studies, such as contributing to open source collaborations, developing their own projects, playing sports at a national level or being deeply involved in ecological issues.
When I asked these students to think about their personal brand, what makes them stand out from all the other computer science engineering graduates, they really had difficulty. Thinking about who they are and what they're good at pushed many of them way out of their comfort zone. The French education system (still) places a lot of emphasis on what you're bad at, not what you're good at.
So I would like to offer encouragement to one of these students, Alexis, who has published his first article on Medium. (And it's not even in his native language!)
(I'd also like to thank all of my Polytech students for not telling me any Game of Thrones spoilers in class today.)
