I recently did a poll on what is most noticeable when someone is speaking English as a foreign language.
The top answer was unsurprisingly #pronunciation.
Anyone who speaks a foreign language knows that as soon as you open your mouth, everyone knows that you are from somewhere else. Pronunciation can be improved but you’ll always have an accent (which is charming, as long as you are intelligible, right? 😎 )
However, hesitation and wrong choice of words together took up 48% of the vote. These are things that you can work on and make great improvement in: hesitation comes from not being able to retrieve the information from your brain quickly enough or from translating directly from your own language.
Wrong choice of words happens a lot when your languages are very similar, like French and English 😰 Again, this is something that you can consciously work on and improve.
We’ll be working on pronunciation, hesitation and word choice in our small group fluency club classes. Want to know more? Click here to find out. https://lnkd.in/eW9zXNG
We have one place left in the advanced group, and one in the intermediate group.
